How much am I qualified to tow?

In the UK, if you passed your test before 1st January 1997 then you can automatically tow up to 3,500kg. If you passed your test after 1st January 1997 then you will need to pass a car and trailer driving test in order to tow 3,500kg. If you passed after 1st January 1997 and you haven’t passed that test then you are limited to towing 750kg, which rules you out of the whole BJT range!

How much can my tow vehicle tow?

Every car has a towing capacity which should be shown on a specification sheet or in the vehicle handbook. The total weight of your trailer, including its load, must never exceed the towing capacity of the tow vehicle.

How much can my trailer carry?

Every trailer has a gross capacity which is listed on the VIN plate. The total weight of the trailer, including its load, must never exceed the gross capacity of the trailer. The unladen weights of our trailers are listed on price lists and brochures, however they do not include the weight of any optional extras. So, if you are close to the gross capacity of the trailer or the tow vehicle it is best to weigh the trailer and/or its load to be sure that you aren’t overloaded.
